UKCCSRC Carbon Capture and Storage Training – keeping up with the times

UKCCSRC Carbon Capture and Storage Training – keeping up with the times

The UKCCSRC is running an in-person CCS training course in Sheffield on 5-6th September.?The CPD-certified course was initiated for government and related CCS stakeholders, but is open to all attendees.?Details are on the UKCCSRC web site https://ukccsrc.ac.uk/ccs-training-course-sheffield-5-6-september-2023/ .

The last in-person UKCCSRC CPD course was held nearly ten years ago, at Cardiff in September 2014.?The long interval can be explained by the drop in widespread CCS interest after the failure of the 2nd UK CCS Competition to deliver viable projects and, when interest started growing again from the start of this decade, COVID.?The UKCCSRC has instead been very active in knowledge exchange for CCS using various forms of Internet delivery, including a series of 18 seminars delivered over 2 months in 2021 https://ukccsrc.ac.uk/ccus-for-net-zero-seminars-resources/ .

But a lot of the value of a CCS course arises from in-person interactions, in particular because CCS is, both literally and metaphorically, a work in progress.?Lecturers on the course can cover the fundamentals principles and describe past practical applications and findings, but the practice of CCS is now developing all the time and some of the most up-to-date information on what is known – and not known – is likely to come up in informal conversations over coffee – and drinks and dinner and during the immediately following UKCCSRC Knowledge Exchange Conference https://ukccsrc.ac.uk/ukccsrc-autumn-conference-sheffield-6-7-sept-2023/ .?With the vast range of things that have to be got right to make CCS happen for the first time there is a lot to talk about!??

This is absolutely fantastic. I hope UKCCSRC does this again next year but please with a little bit more advance notice so I can book flights from HK in time!

Behzad Partoon the conference is quite UK centric but could be a good addition to the Fuel and Energy Resesrch conference which happens to end at the same time as this conference starts in the same city!!
