UK SPACE UPDATE
TARGET: 10% of space Market by 2030.
DELIVERABLES: Space Port (s) to be constructed in the UK.
HOW: A bill to be presented in two months on how much funding will be injected, and how to attract launch providers.
SUMMARY: As you guys know I attended the UK Space conference this Friday, which was 1 of 4 conferences in the UK to get feedback from the experts in the field (I was primarily a fan - but got to give some technical and governance feedback).
These meetings are to help the government shape its legislation as it moves forward to build a new space market for the UK. Brexit and Independence were discussed as well, including where our strong areas (satellites and data) and our weak areas (lack of technical leadership and no current launch sites).
Initially I was highly skeptical that this was possible, but from speaking to the people working in the field, I learned so much that I was completely unaware of - and specifically the level of passion and enthusiasm is very impressive not to mention the intellectual resource we have. I now think that this is in the realms of reality. The future for UK Space is exciting - keep your eyes on social media as UK Space will be making more of an outreach and impact with the public to communicate just what we are doing to make this a reality!
