UK Salary Survey Confusion – I get it!
I have been inundated with messages asking me why there are two UK salary surveys running in parallel. I thought it might be best to clear up the confusion because there are also claims that APMP is running the first ever salary survey in the UK, when we have previously run two for APMP UK.
It all sounds very confusing, and to be fair it is.
We ran the 2008 and 2012 surveys on behalf of APMP UK, not APMP International. You might be asking ‘what the hell is the difference, I’m just a member of APMP?’ Well actually, when you dig beneath the surface there is a quite a lot of difference. They are actually two separate entities.
APMP International is actually correct when it says it is running its first ever UK Salary survey. We ran salary surveys for APMP UK, not APMP International…
We offered to run (again, free of charge) the 2015 and 2018 survey for APMP UK but APMP International wanted to run a vendor neutral survey, which I totally respect.
There are still two fundamental differences in the surveys, and it’s the reason I’m committed to running the Bid Solutions survey. Firstly, ours is completed anonymously. Salary is a very personal and often delicate subject and we respect that. Secondly, we believe passionately that the salary survey needs to be inclusive – ours does not require you to be a member of any particular professional body to take part.
I am truly passionate about exposing salary issues within our maturing profession and I really hope you find our final results useful. And of course, if you are a member of APMP UK, do contribute to that survey too. It will need a good number of respondents to generate a meaningful comparison to ours.
