UK Referendum: lessons for Political and Business Elites

Thought to jot down a few points that come to mind, maybe we will come back and address some of these points in more detail.

This result has implications for all political and business elites in all parts of the world.

Particularly for countries that are in the process of creating economic or political blocs from the GCC, to the African Union, to NAFTA...etc.

A few observations first

1) Success of the Leave vote, in spite of the opposition to it from the political, business class and the main-stream media.

2) Indications of voting along the lines of large urban/smaller urban/rural areas

3) Voting along age, economic class, split between Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England.

The questions that need to be asked

1) Why this disjoint between the elites and the public (or a majority).

2) What were the drivers behind people voting in that way: can immigration only be the reason??

3) What future for these blocs if they do not address people's concerns??

4) What will constitute n acceptable level of delegating national powers to these blocks??

5) Is there a need for more of these referendums, more democracy and less bureaucracy??

Only time will tell. The vote militates against common sense and aspirations of Europoean youth (including Britian's). It was also won by a small margin (2%). It is the the generation of the large minority and not the aged small majority of those behind this vote who will live to bear the brunt of this development and be effected by it for years to come. The economic fall out has already started to show its face with serious slow down projected for the British economy in 2017.
