January 2024 Summary:

1.?????? Permanent hires declined again, as has been the case since October 2022

2.?????? Contractor demand fell marginally, for only the third time in a row.

3.?????? For only the fourth time since February 2021, overall vacancies fell. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported total vacancies fell year on year over three months to December 2023 to 934,000, the lowest recorded in 2.5 years, however, still up post pandemic (826,000), February 2020

4.?????? Staff availability, like the past 11 months (contract and permanent) has risen again, although down slightly from December.

5.?????? The ONS reported average weekly earnings across the UK rose by 6.5% over the three months to November 23. Although still strong, this is the softest increase seen since the three months to March 2023. ?In comparison, Q3 2023 reported a 7.9% increase, down from 8.4% in the Q2 2023.
