UK Parliament will hold a second vote on February 27 if there’s no deal by the 26th, Prime Minister Theresa May has pledged. Calling for more time for negotiations, May told the House of Commons yesterday that talks with the EU are “at a crucial stage”. The EU has so far refused to water down terms of the controversial Irish backstop, which would help May pass her deal through Parliament. The UK is currently facing leaving the EU on March 29 without a deal in place. ? Here’s what people are saying.
All flights to and from Belgium today have been cancelled. The country’s air traffic control agency, Skeyes, says it was “forced to prohibit” air traffic from 10pm on Tuesday until 10pm tonight after three worker unions called for a strike amid a growing wage dispute. German carrier TUI is operating from nearby French and Dutch airports, while Brussels Airlines cancelled more than 200 flights. There were a record 30 air traffic control strike days across Europe in 2018. ? Here’s what people are saying.
There are five countries in the EU where women dominate science and engineering. In Lithuania, 57% of workers in those fields are women, according to a Eurostat report, followed by Bulgaria and Latvia (53%), Portugal (51%) and Denmark (just over 50%). At the other end of the scale, women in Hungary and Luxembourg make up just 25% of the industry, followed by Finland (29%) and Germany (33%). The OECD notes the under-representation of women is a worry for gender equality. ? Here’s what people are saying.
The heads of Renault and Nissan will meet this week in Japan to discuss their alliance. Renault’s Jean-Dominique Senard and Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa will work together to “restore trust and stabilise the relationship,” says Saikawa. Meanwhile, former CEO Carlos Ghosn — who was arrested last year on allegations of financial misconduct — has agreed to repay a €50,000 bill for his wedding party held at the Palace of Versailles. ? The world’s largest spice-maker, McCormick, is teaming up with IBM Research to harness the power of artificial intelligence to create new spices. Still in the testing phase, the computer system identifies base formulas for flavours and then incorporates new, often surprising ingredients — significantly reducing the usual time for developing spices. Richard Goodwin, principal research scientist at IBM, says computers can be more creative because they don't have the biases that humans do. ? Here’s what people are saying.

6 年"The OECD notes the under-representation of women is a worry for gender equality." Apparently it would be much less worrying if women were forced to do what they don't want to do just in the name of some Utopian idea.
