UK Microsoft MVP to present the first VR conference session!

Here’s something cool and probably a world-first for our community. Mark Stokes MVP, CEO of Red Plane (a UK based SharePoint Consultancy) is going to deliver his online Collab365 Global Conference presentation from within a virtual reality (VR) room. (We also reviewed Microsoft’s newly acquired AltspaceVR which is well worth a read).

Mark will be presenting a session based around a new Microsoft technology called Microsoft PowerApps. 

The VR platform Mark has chosen to present his conference session is called Facebook Spaces (which was first demoed a few months back by Mark Zuckerberg). You can see from the screenshot above what it looks like, as Mark imparts his expert knowledge.

From within his virtual session, Mark has the ability to select the camera angle and remote control (and show) his PC Desktop. He can also choose the backdrop of his virtual world by selecting a 360 degree picture from his Facebook profile pictures.

Facebook Spaces is still in beta but already allows you to share pictures, videos, take selfies and also stream live to Facebook. One other notable feature is the ability to draw in 3D and manipulate it by moving it around. Add in the fact that you can invite 3 other guests into the session who can also share the experience, and you've got something really incredible!

In addition to all the goodies above, there are ways for people without Oculus Rift headsets to get involved:

• Attendees can watch the live stream (or recording).
• You can also invite your Facebook friends into the session for a video chat which shows up directly on the virtual phone.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what we'll eventually be able to do in platforms such as Facebook Spaces.

Being able to present from within VR is going to allow so much more creativity to be achieved, at such a lower cost. Once headsets become ubiquitous, attendees can also join in to give some of that "human-to-human" feel that is so often enjoyed at in-person events.

This is the 4th Global Conference ...

The Collab365 Global Conference is the now into its 4th year and is the largest 3rd party online conference dedicated to Microsoft Office 365, Azure, Flow, PowerApps and Teams. The event will be featuring over 120 speakers from around the world including live content from the Microsoft product teams.
