ARE UK "A" LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS A JOKE IN 2019?

I remember in 1960 when I took my GCE "O"levels that there were two outcomes, PASS or FAIL.

Recent "A" level results show that one examination board grade "A" passes in Maths are awarded to students only getting 54% of the questions correct.

Compare that to A - level Maths in 1967 where that result would only warrant a borderline grade "E." Back in 1967 a grade "A" would have required over 80%.

Additionally in 1967 anything under 50% correct would have been passed as FAIL, compared to now where a student can get as low as 13% (87% incorrect!) and still get a grade "E."

Examiners in 2019 seem scared stiff of upsetting the current generation of snowflakes making what used to be a worthwhile qualification into a complete joke. Regardless of their individual ability the system seems to reward failure which cannot be right and cannot bode well for the nation's future workforce.
