The UK Is Not Leaving the EU Yet

The UK was scheduled to leave the European Union yesterday but that didn’t happen. The EU has agreed to a 3-month extension period that Johnson was obliged to ask for.

There was a sigh of relief for many, including concerned business owners. We won’t have to worry about the consequences of a no-deal Brexit, at least for now.

Now we are facing a general election in December for the first time since 1923. The Brexit deadlock has been resolved. After several times of trying, Johnson finally got a majority to vote for an early election on Tuesday. MPs voted and we will have a pre-Christmas election on December 12.

Brexit will be at the focus of the campaign with the Conservatives campaigning to get the Brexit done already while the Labour party will campaign for a second referendum.

Experts say that the result of the vote is hard to predict. Many believe that Johnson’s chances of winning are slim since he failed to deliver Brexit on October 31, as he promised.

The extension period expires on January 31 but the UK could leave sooner if the deal is ratified. One thing is certain, the Brexit drama is not nearly over.
