UK Job market report

UK Job market report

Recruitment across Hampshire and Dorset continues to be a challenge for employers with candidates firmly in the driving seat when it comes to choice considering the variety and number of jobs available. Aspire Jobs has hit the ground running in 2024 with a good deal of new and repeat client business keeping our growing team very busy indeed!

One downside of the recruitment landscape right now is that we're experiencing an increase in 'candidate ghosting'.

Candidate ghosting refers to when a job candidate stops responding to or cuts off communication after previously expressing an interest in a role or going through to interview stage.

Choice and variety of job roles play a part, plus economic uncertainty. It's frustrating, but we are working hard to keep communication channels open, accelerate the hiring process and extol the client's company culture through our interactions

The latest national statistics are out, here's a summary:

  • Advertised vacancies have seen the biggest monthly fall since June 2020
  • Advertised salaries rise +0.96% to £37,577
  • The national average time to fill a role is sitting at 35.6 days. Ours was 24.9 days so more than 10 days quicker!
  • Jobseeker competition hits highest point since September 2021
  • South East England's advertised average salary £36,007, +2.7% annual salary change
  • Warehouse work and lorry drivers are still trending jobs
  • Teaching was the only sector to experience a rise in monthly job vacancies in December
