With 2,000,000 pre and post 16 year old's escaping captivity to join the other 30% + of UK population classified as functionally and digitally illiterate along with 58% of display screen operators in the workplace predictably suffering debilitating levels of early onset eye-strain, Computer Vision Syndrome or Screen Fatigue or worse, the Global Pandemic in visual repetitive stress injuries to their binocular vision little wonder presenteeism, wellbeing and mental health is so profoundly affecting UK educational performance and productivity.
The insidious loss of vocational and/or life-skills for self-sufficiency in favour of a narrow academic curriculum further disabling those not enabled to read fluently and effectively excluded from life-long learning in an age where Digital Literacy essential for the majority of human resources work/life and employ-ability has to amount to contributory negligence of our Government who are, sort of, commenting on the fact that socio-economic mobility is, no longer a factor in the UK's economy nor improving quality of life in the 21st Century.
Fluent and easy "Access to Text" wherever you are today on the spectrum of functionality or neuro/age-diverse population or socio-economic security or otherwise should be an underpinning priority as, we sleep-walk toward a dystopian future of functional illiteracy population and/or actually burning the books.
Eye-health and digital literacy are going to be more important to sustainability in the 4th industrial revolution and continuing marginalising or excluding the 30% + of our human resources from life-long learning and disabling 58% + of DSE operators in the workplace will ultimately result in the UK spiraling toward a return to the status of an LDC !
