UK Government sets a roadmap to unmanned aircraft boosting our economy

The “Future of Flight Action Plan” has been released and outlines a more efficient and sustainable aviation and cargo transport strategy.?

After years of drone and electric vehicle development, the government are setting out to finally create a working model of how to use drones and ‘flying taxis’ in new ways to help the economy.

Applications include Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operation and, eventually, full automation to deliver goods, complete?inspections, and passenger taxi services.

Backed by £125 million pounds of public funding, the strategy laid out by the Future of Flight Industry Group (FFIG) is a blend of ambition and careful planning.

The goal is to weave new flight technology into the fabric of existing aviation to benefit individuals and UK businesses.

These benefits include ongoing?cost savings,?enhanced safety, and?increased speed,?which drones have already demonstrated across diverse commercial and?public sectors.

It is predicted that advanced Mobility using airborne tech could bring the UK yearly benefits worth £1-2 billion by 2040, thanks to cost savings, shorter travel times, and reduced carbon emissions.

To battle the safety and privacy concerns and so to address those concerns £1.8 million is being put into research to understand and prevent the negative impacts of the expanding use of airspace.

Key targets: A date with the future!

?Drones (UAS)

?1. Limited permitted demonstrations of drone flights beyond visual line of sight in shared airspace by late 2024.

?2. Widespread “Beyond Visual Line of Sight “operations to be permitted by 2027 opening the door for fully commercial drone services such as deliveries

? ?eVTOL (Air Taxis)?

1. Initial commercial operation of piloted, passenger-carrying eVTOLs by 2026

2. Routine commercial operation of eVTOLs by 2028

3. Initial autonomous flights of eVTOLs by 2030

We will continue to monitor progress as the UK recognises the value of unmanned aircraft

Exciting times ahead for the future of unmanned aircraft flights in the UK! It's fascinating to see how drones are poised to revolutionize various industries, much like how the Internet transformed our lives back in 1996. The "Future of Flight Action Plan" sounds like a promising roadmap for leveraging drones to boost our economy while ensuring efficiency and sustainability. Can't wait to witness the incredible opportunities and growth that lie ahead!
