The UK government has earmarked £45.7 million to back pioneering projects focused on diminishing emissions and promoting the utilisation of local energy sources. This funding is set to benefit a diverse array of sectors, including construction, manufacturing, and malting.
A notable beneficiary is Tweed Valley Maltings in Northumberland, the base for Simpsons Malt, a family-run business with roots tracing back to 1963. The malt provider plans to inaugurate a low carbon energy centre, which will be energised by wind power. This initiative is anticipated to reduce costs, cut down emissions, and bolster energy self-reliance for the company.
In total, 26 businesses will gain from this financial boost. For instance, Danfoss is leading an endeavour in Edinburgh to augment energy efficiency in excavators. Meanwhile, Digital Realty aims to retrofit its data centres with advanced chillers to minimise energy usage.
Amanda Solloway, the Minister for Energy Consumers and Affordability, commented on the initiative, stating, "Our commitment to achieving net zero by 2050 is unwavering, and we are dedicated to equipping businesses with the necessary resources to contribute to a greener, more cost-effective energy system."
