UK Food Poverty

Did you know that the UK’s food poverty rate is among the highest in Europe? Recent statistics from the Government report that 4.2 million people and 9% of ALL CHILDREN lived in food poverty between 2020-2021.?

Had Marcus Rashford not got involved, who knows how little some children may have eaten during the worst times of the pandemic.??

As a father of three, this is something that is currently on my mind 24/7 and something I can't NOT speak out about.??

The cost of living crisis is soaring and even more recently 76% of people admitted that rising food prices were of particular concern. Those who are feeling the anxiety in particular are those with long-term ill health, people from Black, Asian and minority background and women.?

And let’s be clear – it’s not a case of ‘go and get a job then’. In-work poverty is a VERY REAL CONCERN. 72% of children in families that are struggling to afford food have at least one working parent.?

Why isn’t the other working? The cost of childcare often means two working parents are financially worse off.??

Food prices have already risen by 13.1% in the 12 months up to August 2022 and Christmas looks dire.?

What are you doing to help??

Can food waste go to foodbanks or local initiatives instead of landfill??

Can food that doesnt hit the retail spec go to foodbanks or local initiatives instead of the staff shop??
