UK Finance, Learning at Work Week
UK Finance
The collective voice for the banking and finance industry, representing around 300 firms.
Stepping back and seeing what you have learnt along the way.
This week marks Learning at Work Week,?an annual event to build learning cultures at work. It aims to put a spotlight on the importance and benefits of continual learning and development. Having gone through formal education at school and university, when you leave you feel ‘all learnt out’. Yet, it’s not until you step back that you realise how much you have learnt along the way in your career. Whether it’s from the mistakes that you make or the people that you are surrounded by, each step of the way you really do learn something.??
It’s important to take stock of what you have achieved and how you have grown, and also to refocus the mind on the areas that you want to develop further in. It’s down to each of us to make the most of the opportunities available to us all. ?
Often for me it’s not until I have completed a project or task, that I realise that’s the thing I want to or need to know more about. Recently I have undertaken ‘Psychological safety’ training which was in an in-person group setting. It was incredibly insightful and thought provoking and has been imperative for me in my role in leading a team of 12 people.?
As Commercial Director at UK Finance, I’m heavily involved in the planning and implementation of our training curriculum for our members. It’s vital for people to continue learning, it can be significant to developing both personally and professionally, whilst also benefiting , our mental health.???

We value our members feedback and have recently launched a Learning & Development forum for L&D specialists within UK Finance member firms. In the first session we discussed learning trends and key priorities as well as an opportunity to network with one another; to discuss what’s working and the age-old question of how to make individuals take hold of their own learning and development? We will be hosting our next forum on 10 July and would love other L&D specialists to join, so do let me know via our Training form if you would like further details. ?
For our members (and non-members) we are always happy to have a conversation to see how we can help with your or your team’s training requirements. We are continually looking at new ways to develop new content, ensuring it’s relevant and topical but most of all that it’s high quality. We offer a bespoke in-house offering to help develop training for your teams’ specific requirements.??
However, it’s important to remember that not all training has to be formal workshops or module based. It could be listening in to one of our topical discussions via a webinar or attending one of our events which brings together some of the most impressive minds for thought provoking discussions.? To see a full list of our activities coming up on our website or read our monthly Events and Training LinkedIn newsletter.?
