UK Council on Geostrategy: SDR and sea power

Colleagues, I commend to you the 12pp paper published this month by the UK Council on Geostrategy by Dr Emma Salisbury and James Rogers entitled: The Strategic Defence Review, Britain and sea power – Council on Geostrategy

Some insightful excerpts:

'While the (2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review) Review concluded that the Euro-Atlantic would remain central to Britain's posture, the emphasis on sea power is evident in the call for a more active role in the Indo-Pacific region'. Later when discussing AUKUS the paper prefers to see the two regions as a single integrated theatre.

'It is clear the the fleet of the 2020's is too small for the growing challenges and threats the nation faces.'

'... subsea infrastructure, especially underwater cables...Sea power is vital for their protection.;

'Whatever form the "integrated force" eventually takes, sea power should be its nucleus.'

''Promoting and bolstering clean economic growth ...will not be possible without sea power, securing trade, connections and energy supplies...'

We have 14 days of fuel and 14 days at sea. Stop the ships coming and we would have Mad Max the documentary within 90 days.
