The UK is the Best at the Spogomi World Cup

21 teams gathered in Japan last week ahead of the opening of the Spogomi World Cup. Spogomi is a Japanese game. In this game basically, the players clean the garbage. In this game, there is a competition to see who can collect and separate the garbage as fast as possible. This initiative has been taken to raise awareness about environmental problems.

In this game, there are three players in each team. Participants in the tournament, Australia and Brazil, collected garbage for 90 minutes in two phases on the streets of Shibuya and Omotesando Wards. Then separate them by type.

UK team 'The North Will Rise Again' beat host Japan The team from England collected 57.27 kg of garbage and earned 9 thousand 46.1 points. Japan finished second in the tournament.

Sarah Parry, head of the winning team last Wednesday, after receiving the champion trophy, said, "Other teams may be more aware of environmental issues." But not so much in the garbage collection game. We were probably in the opposite position than them. We have done all we can to clean up our oceans and reduce litter. It's a different kind of feeling.

Japan has a reputation for adhering to the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness. As a result, it became challenging for contestants to occasionally find garbage in the competition.

Spogomi is derived from sports, short for 'spo', and gomi (garbage).

Japan invented such a competition in 2008 to encourage people to remove litter left in the open. Around 230 competitions are held in Japan this year due to the sport's popularity.
