UK active breaks for the February half term

Going on holiday during half term can be expensive, so if you’re looking for alternative options that won’t break the bank, then why not take the whole family on a stay-cation. Holidays in the UK are becoming increasingly popular, and there are some great deals around for February half term.

There are some truly beautiful locations in the UK with stunning countryside to be explored, and while you may not get the warmer climate, UK resort holidays usually have plenty to offer in the form of activities and entertainment- perfect for keeping the kids happy for the week.

Cornwall coast

Why not head to the stunning south coast of Cornwall, where you’ll find some of the most picturesque views in the whole of the UK. Full of quaint seaside towns and cobbled streets, you can experience true English culture with a Cornish cream tea or take a hike to Land’s End, one of the most iconic countryside landmarks.

There are plenty of beaches across Cornwall which are perfect for surfers and kite surfers, and you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to hiking and cycling trails, so it really is a great holiday destination for active families.

Norfolk

Norfolk is a great destination to visit all year round, with beautiful countryside, coastline and National Parks. Those looking for an active holiday can check out the Norfolk Coast Path which runs 62.5 miles from Hunstanton to Sea Palling, where you can witness gorgeous coastal views and take in the fresh sea air.

If you’re into your heritage and culture, Norwich is a great medieval city to visit, with a range of arts and music, bars, nightlife and shopping. You can visit its stunning cathedral and explore the fusion of city and nature as this is the only city built amongst a National Park.

Scottish highlands

Head to the highlands and take in some breath-taking scenery. From historic ruins to moody lochs and valleys, you’ll never be bored with all that Scotland has to offer.

There are plenty of hiking trails and cycle routes where you can spot an array of wildlife such as red deer in the woodlands. Scotland’s major cities such as Edinburgh and Glasgow offer beautiful architecture and historic landmarks.

Peak District

The Peak District is one of the best places in the UK to go walking. With breath-taking views for miles across the Peak District National Park and a range of activities on offer, a holiday in the Peak District is one you won’t forget.

You can take part in guided walks or head off on an adventure of your own, you can even hire bikes or try a new activity such as rock climbing, fishing, or hand gliding. If that doesn’t take your fancy, then you can simply take a relaxing walk spot some of the wildlife and wild plants in the meadows.

Northumberland coast

This northernmost county in England offers a vast amount of forests and National Parks where you can take part in a variety of activities including walking and cycling, plus you’ll have 64 miles of beautiful coastline to explore, with a walking path that allows you to take in the countryside and sea views.

If you’re looking to simply escape to the countryside for some relaxation time, Northumberland is home to some quaint little towns with castles, churches and abbeys to explore, as well as some lovely bars, cafes and restaurants.

Hampshire

There is so much to love about Hampshire, from the historic town of Winchester to the New Forest and Lymington Harbour. Lovers of history and culture can visit Jane Austen’s birthplace or check out Winchester cathedral, and you can explore some of the best markets with homemade foods in some of these quaint little towns.

The New Forest offers plenty of hiking trails and is a great day out for all the family. You’ll be able to spot local wildlife such as horses, pigs, cows and deer, and photographers will love some of the stunning views you can capture across many of the parks, fields and woodlands.
