UHS and the Omni System
The Eye Theatre team at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) has just completed a week of canaloplasty and trabeculectomy using the OMNI surgical system from Sight Sciences. This minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) performs two implant free procedures targeting three points of resistance, the trabecular meshwork, Schlemm's Canal and the distal collector channels. The OMNI can be used standalone or combined with cataract surgery.
The recent results of the GEMINI study showed that combined phacoemulsification and OMNI surgical system significantly reduced unmedicated mean diurnal IOP and medication use 12 months post operatively, so it should be considered in mild to moderate Open Angle Glaucoma
Always looking to the next generation of ophthalmologists, it was gratifying to see one of our fellows using the OMNI system so capably. Congratulations to Rawan Omary (right) on this important stage of her surgical journey. We were also grateful to have an international observer with us. Dr Luigi Di Perna from Naples has spent the past weeks with the glaucoma team at University Hospital Southampton, and his presence has been very welcome.?
Thank you to Nicky Stephens and Sherry Knowlden?at Sight Sciences. Our team is very grateful for your ongoing support.
