Uganda Police Warns Against False Fire Alarms Amid Rising Fire Incidents.

The Uganda Police Force has issued a stern warning to the public against making false fire alarms to the Fire and Emergency Rescue Services helpline. Speaking at the weekly security briefing at Naguru, police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma expressed concern over the increasing number of fake fire reports, cautioning that those found guilty will face legal consequences.

This warning comes amid a surge in fire outbreaks across the country, the latest of which occurred on September 21st at Sideview Nursery and Primary School in Kinawataka, Nakawa Division, where a fire destroyed valuable school property. Kituuma used this incident as an example, urging owners of public facilities to take responsibility by installing firefighting equipment instead of solely relying on the fire brigade.

Kituuma further condemned the reckless habit of making false fire alarms, emphasizing that this behavior diverts critical resources from genuine emergencies. "Those who engage in this vice risk facing the full wrath of the law," he warned.

Additionally, Kituuma appealed to road users, particularly motorists, to always give the right of way to fire and emergency rescue vehicles to ensure timely responses to emergencies.

In a separate issue, Kituuma addressed the recent arrest of Don Nassar, a well-known figure in Uganda, who was apprehended at the Malaba border on September 20th. Nassar faces charges of aggravated trafficking in children, drug abuse, sexual exploitation, and defilement. He appeared before the Buganda Road Court and has been remanded as investigations continue. Kituuma called on anyone with substantial evidence against Nassar to come forward to assist the police in the prosecution process.
