In Uganda alone, a staggering 33,000 individuals receive a cancer diagnosis annually, with a mere 7,400 able to access care at the Uganda Cancer Institute. On a global scale, a heart-wrenching 10 million lives are claimed by cancer each year, predominantly in low- and middle-income countries, constituting around 70% of all cancer-related fatalities. With this somber reality in mind, we propel our collective efforts towards igniting positive change.
The barriers to cancer care identified by the Uganda Cancer Institute – encompassing gender norms, poverty and socio-economic constraints, geographical divides, and age-related disparities – are grim reminders of the gap in cancer care accessibility. This gap not only separates nations but also segregates rural and urban communities, highlighting the imperative nature of initiatives like the Rotary Cancer Run.
As the Rotary Cancer Run draws near, we extend an earnest invitation to all to join us in this transformative odyssey. Together, we shall fortify our ranks, embody the tenacity of hope, and construct a future illuminated by the radiance of well-being.
Join us at the starting line as we embark on a collective journey for a cause that transcends mere philanthropy – a quest for a healthier, more resilient future.
