UEFA changes the qualification system for the WC 2026

The new system to qualify for the World Cup 2026 in Mexico and United States will start with a group stage of 12 groups composed by 4 or 5 teams. The winner of each group will qualify directly to the World Cup. The second of each group will go to a playoff stage for the remaining 4 places to the World Cup.
Additionally, UEFA modified the Nations League format including two more matches. Instead of having a direct final four, a playoff stage will take place. The playoff stage will be played by the first and second places of each group. The playoff winners will play the Final Four stage of the competition.
Finally, the UEFA 2023 Super Cup venue was also changed. Originally it was going to be played in Kazan will now be played in Athens on August 16th.
