Udyog Sanchetana means Awareness of Industry. Its dedicated to Knowledge of Industry, Technology, Entrepreneurship and Career Awareness. A two-page English edition of FREE eNewsletter was started in April 2014. It was made Bi-lingual for some time from September 2020. Having launched the monthly on LinkedIn in Feb, 2022, regular publication has been made in Hindi. LinkedIn newsletter will be ENGLISH version.

1.???Unemployment, Manufacturing and MSME

IITK-Alumni Association Bangalore Chapter organised a virtual meet on 12th March,2022, where Paritosh had a chat with Saurabh Chandra, IAS (Retd.), former Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

The key points that emerged during the chat were – manufacturing has high potential for job creation, if its share in GDP could be enhanced from the present 16 % to 25 % or more. MSMEs have scope to grow, but there are barriers, like regulatory environment, economy of scale, lack of in-house R&D, and technology upgradation with time etc.

The chat also stressed need for clusterization, aggregation of capacities to achieve economy of scale etc. Another event during the month in New Delhi by the Ministry of Steel on 27th March dwelt upon similar issues, during the National Conference on Role of Secondary Steel Sector. But should the issues remain on discussion table?

A novel tradition to groom TALENT for the Manufacturing sector is set by GE that needs to be adopted in India also. If the system could be copied and adopted by corporates in manufacturing sector, the engineering students will be groomed to meet the needs of industry and none will remain jobless.

Another mechanism of PAID Internship for one year by M/s B L Agro Industries Ltd is an approach that will take care of Un-Employability tag from the engineering students, whether degree, diploma or ITI technicians.?

2. General Electric (GE) – A Saga of 130 Years

Thomas Alva Edison, the founder of GE is better known as the inventor of incandescent bulb, but what else should we know? Though established in United States, 68% of its employees are based outside and the workforce represents nationalities from 169 countries. A leading international name in Manufacturing, it caters to Transportation, Power, Healthcare and Environment.

Restructuring for Growth

3. Developing Next Gen Engineers – GE Style

GE has developed an extensive program to create awareness of engineering discipline in the age group of 13-18. It’s generating ideas, making models and prototypes, testing designs, or meeting real engineers, the Next Engineers program brings engineering to life.

(2) Engineering Camp

• Students in the age group 14 to 15 are immersed in the engineering process through a week-long camp experience; where they interact with experienced engineering faculty, staff, and business leaders as they complete design challenges inspired by real-world scenarios, building an identity as aspiring engineers.

(3) Engineering Academy

• Over three years, the students in the age group 15 to 18, learn to think and act like engineers and prepare to advance to post-secondary education.
• With over 80 hours per year outside of school, the Academy includes a series of immersive design challenges, career coaching, and college-readiness workshops to equip youth with the skills they need to build an engineering identity and career.
• Students who complete the 80 hours/year of programming and enroll in a post-secondary engineering degree program will receive a partial scholarship from the GE Foundation.

4. News that Matters...

Tech Talk by IEI_Bareilly LC and RIMT

IEI_ Bareilly Local Centre organised technical talk competition for engineering students to celebrate the International Engineers Day on 4th March 2022. There were 27 participants, who were judged for content and the confidence of presentation. Out of 27 participants, 25 dwelt upon IT and CSE topics and only 2 talked on other subjects. One of the speakers talked about study carried out on efficiency of solar plates and stressed the need for regular cooling and cleaning, but most of the public installations are never cleaned, except by rains.

B L Agro Industries – Internship Offer

B L Agro Industries Ltd, Bareilly (UP), a leading enterprise engaged in edible oil business with popular brands ‘??? ?????? [Bail KOLHU] and ‘Nourish’ has annual turnover of over Rs 3,000 Crore. The company has announced PAID one-year Internship scheme, as part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for B Tech, MBA, Diploma, ITI students, to improve EMPLOYABILITY.

The company will offer 500 internship stipends of one year duration in next few years; break-up of scheme for B Tech, M Tech, MBA group is as follows:?

Total honorarium for this group?will be Rs Two Lakh Forty Thousand (Rs.240,000/-).

The quarterly performance review linked increment in stipend and BONUS is meant to create interest in learning. Similar schemes are there for Diploma/ Science Graduates and ITI Technicians with annual honorarium package of Rs 192,000/- and Rs 144,000/- respectively. After the one year internship, trainees may join B L Agro Ltd or go elsewhere, but extensive internship will improve their EMPLOYABILITY.

Adani Total Gas

Adani Total Gas Ltd signed agreement with Shri Mataji Gauvansh Seva Sansthan, Barsana (Mathura), a Charitable Trust on 8th Oct, 2021 to establish bio-conversion plant to use about 350 TPD of feed consisting of cattle dung as the primary biomass along with others.

Electricity from cow dung and other bio-waste is no more a viable option, but CNG has very good return and demand also. Startups located close to industrial hubs could supply piped natural gas (PNG) as substitute for Coal and Furnace Oil. Only important point is to check plant capacity and raw material availability, marketing is no issue.??
