UCAS Teacher Training - Overseas Qualifications

APPLYING FOR TEACHER TRAINING - Overseas qualifications

When you apply, we have to confirm that you meet all of the requirements of teacher training at each level. You need the following:

- Degree (usually) honours

- GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English (if you are applying for primary then you also need Science)

If you completed your education overseas, then you will need to complete a NARIC comparability statement for both you high school qualifications and your degree. If you have since completed a Masters in this country, then that would normally be taken over the overseas degree. You would still need to have a comparability on your high school.

If your degree comes out as degree 'standard', then this is not honours. This may cause issues. Talk to your chosen providers to see what they suggest. One option is to complete a Masters, which they should take over the degree.

If your high school qualifications are not comparable then you can complete a GCSE or an equivalency test. Most overseas English qualifications are NOT comparable as they are taught as an additional language, like we would teach French. Therefore, it doesn't cover the content that you need.
