On, October 10, 2024, Canonical released Ubuntu 24.10 Oracular Oriole. This version of Ubuntu comes with the latest Linux 6.11 kernel and GNOME 47 desktop environment. Ubuntu 24.10 includes significant improvements to software security and hardware support.

Ubuntu is often considered the best Linux distro for beginners. Even though a Linux operating system can be installed directly on a laptop or desktop computer, virtual machines is an excellent way to become familiar with the Ubuntu desktop environment.
