Uber has launched a driver feedback programme in the UK following calls for greater rights and protections for gig economy workers. The tech firm said the UberEngage programme would ensure it’s held more accountable for its decisions by enabling drivers to provide feedback on products and company updates, plus pitch their own ideas on how the service could improve. Driver advisory groups are being created in each of the UK cities the firm operates in, comprising of five local drivers who will meet with senior Uber staff each month to discuss any issues.

The government is taking action to stamp out unpaid internships. Over the past three months, HMRC has contacted more than 550 firms that have been advertising for unpaid interns. The government department wrote to the companies to highlight when they are legally obliged to pay at least the minimum wage. Research by The Sutton Trust found that more than 40% of young people who have carried out internships have done so without being paid.

Trinity Mirror has bought the Daily Express and the Daily Star in a £126.7m deal. Magazine titles OK!, New! and Star will also change hands as part of the deal, which will see Trinity Mirror make an initial payment of £47.7m to Northern & Shell, followed by £59m between 2020 and 2023, plus £20m in shares. Trinity Mirror CEO Simon Fox said the editorial tone of the major titles will remain unchanged, but suggested job cuts lie ahead due to plans for £20m-a-year cost savings.

Twitter turned its first profit. The social media company topped Wall Street expectations, reporting a net profit of $91.1m (£65.9m) in the fourth quarter. Monthly active users were little changed from the previous quarter, which the social network said is in part due to a crackdown on fake profiles, spam and malicious activity. CEO Jack Dorsey has been spearheading the company's turnaround, upping efforts in video and other areas to increase engagement and encourage advertising spend. ? Eurostar is launching a London-Amsterdam direct service in April. There will be two trains per day running non-stop from St Pancras station to Amsterdam with a journey time of just under four hours. The return journey won’t be quite so simple – the trains will stop in Brussels where security screening will take place, but this is just until the British and Dutch governments negotiate an agreement on passport control. Tickets are going on sale later this month, with prices starting from £35 one way, which could spark a price war with airlines, the Guardian reports.

Idea of the Day: If your team isn’t meeting your expectations, the problem might be you, says Harvard Business Review writer Andy Molinsky. “Are you micromanaging your team in such a way that they have little chance of ever meeting your standards? Are you limiting the growth of your team - and of yourself - by over-controlling the process?”

“Find a middle ground. Instead of being cc-ed on every email, ask to be cc-ed only on certain types of emails. Or instead of checking in with your team at your current rate, cut that by a third.”
