Uber Took Supply and Demand Too Far – Now Taxis Are Cheaper!

Uber was supposed to be the cheaper, more convenient alternative to taxis. But somehow, we've reached a point where traditional taxis cost less than Uber. How did we get here? Simple—Uber took the concept of supply and demand and ran wild with it.

We've all seen it: one day, a ride to the same destination is $12, and the next, it’s $22–$28. Why? Because "demand is high." That’s Uber’s favorite excuse. But let’s be real—this pricing strategy has gone too far.

No matter how much money I make, I don’t believe in throwing it away. I watch every penny. If you don’t value your money down to the cent, I don’t know what to tell you—but Uber is definitely counting on you not to care.

And while I feel for the drivers (because Uber doesn’t pay them well), the company is banking on us to tip just so drivers can make a livable wage. When drivers went on strike, Uber barely increased their pay—but guess what did go up? Ride fares.

Here’s my personal experience: I used to take Uber to work because after a long day, I’d rather not drive. That ride used to cost me $12. Now, after all the pricing changes, it ranges from $22 to $28 for the same trip. WOW.

And if there’s an event happening in my work zone? Forget it. I’ve seen prices surge to $80, even $140 for a ride home! Uber’s system sees that I take this same route six days a week, yet it still jacks up the price. So, what do I do? I walk to an interstate location outside the zone and bring the fare down to $40.

I even wrote to Uber about it—no response.

At the end of the day, Uber’s pricing model is no longer about fairness or convenience—it’s about squeezing every possible dollar out of riders while underpaying drivers. And that’s a business model I simply refuse to support blindly.
