UBER Next Gen - Continued
In my earlier conversation about the necessary evolution of UBER, we discussed the expansion method - - - The need to be inclusive. A site where Taxi cabs, radio cabs, and all other forms of ride share/pay venues could play in the UBER sandbox (Uber Next Gen). This would be a way to win for all, since customers don’t need to load or search a dozen apps (e.g. as one does for coffee shops) or go to a KYACK like solution as one does for airline tickets. And this allows their 'competitors' to play and grow in a common environment.
Of course there are many other expansion areas. UBER talks about food and package delivery, but there are numerous other ideas that can be added to the mix. For example, Park and Ride - - - an added value approach to the UberPool concept - - - By teaming with parking lots outside the city center, riders could drive to work, find inexpensive parking, and then take an UBER share into a location much closer than some forms of public transportation may offer. Also the value add of avoiding subway or bus options may be worth the cost to many coming into the city that don’t want to give up their automobiles as a primary commuter method, but can’t afford the time and/or cost of parking near the work location.
Parking firms like Icon and Laz can be great teammates for Uber. Not only the commuter parking / ride in options mentioned above, but extended services as well. For example, the Parking location can offer not only an UberPool ride to work, but can offer working couples Day Care for their children (no more riding to multiple locations), laundry, food preparation ... and the list goes on. This can be the start of a cooperative service approach geared to the commuting public. Something fun to think about.
Another interesting area is the fact that Uber does incorporate Big Data in its services: For example surge pricing when there are too many riders and too view drivers. Or the statistics it keeps on drivers to allow riders to see reviews of who they would be using. Eventually it can add real time route management to help drivers with more efficient routing, and maintenance (gas stations, repair locations, even where most purchase their UBER vehicle). This will expand into a profit center since it can also tie into location based marketing firms – knowing where people are going, what malls, what movie theaters, etc. in real time is very valuable.
Yes, there is a lot that Uber can be and it looks like they are on the way to providing a lot of these services.
