Uber it's own worst enemy
Uber is it's own worst enemy! Predatory or Gouging pricing like this will take away its only supporters that truly love it - the riders. How is Travis Kalanick/ Uber Team any different from Martin Shkreli ! In my view more worse as we have to pay everyday - or left stranded or pay such high multiples under duress to reach to our destination. Price to pay for being a fan and supporting the service ?
No doubt Uber is a great service and users love it. But utility services like this can't behave like thugs or black marketers. All that the riders are looking for is reliability, ease of availability and safety. Consumers are not asking for discounts and they will happily pay the same price as the local cabs or even 15-20% premium for the great service but not get gouged. Mass Utility services no matter how great they are, they still have to be responsible and have to have self restraint. Reasons like these are perfect fodder for regulators, politicians, unions and other interest groups to come down heavily and drive them out of the market or severely restrict them. Would be sad to see such a brilliant product lose out to its own greed! Hope better sense prevails and stop hitting self goals!

8 年Sadly this is a by product of taking in too much funding and then trying to hit the numbers the teams puts in the pro forma. As a startup CEO myself, I don't envy the folks who take in the big bucks in multiple rounds in an effort to capture market share. Very few companies actually have the restraint (or the required low burn rate) to build up the monetization value prop gradually.

9 年Surge pricing on one service, leads consumers to check pricing on the second, third & nth option. So much for building consumer preference & loyalty!
