Uber Freight Introduces Broker Access to Streamline Freight Operations

On November 14, Uber Freight unveiled Broker Access, a capacity-as-a-service solution designed to revolutionize freight brokerage operations. This innovative platform allows brokers to book, execute, track, and manage payments for loads directly on Uber Freight's carrier network, while still maintaining their role as the sole broker on each load. The program is aimed at boosting productivity, reducing operational complexity, and fostering business growth.

What is Broker Access?

Broker Access is a self-service tool that provides brokers with streamlined access to Uber Freight’s expansive carrier network. Brokers can use the platform via a portal, application programming interfaces (APIs), electronic data interchanges (EDIs), or transportation management system (TMS) integrations. By automating key operations such as booking and load tracking, the solution aims to free up resources, enabling brokers to focus on strategic tasks like growing their business and building stronger relationships within the supply chain.

Brooks McMahon, Uber Freight’s Vice President of Emerging Products, highlighted the program's value in a recent LinkedIn blog post:

“Traditional ways of sourcing capacity no longer suffice on their own. To thrive, brokers need to incorporate new approaches that offer speed, flexibility, and efficiency at scale. Broker Access isn’t designed to compete with your carrier sales team or load boards—it complements them.”

By integrating seamlessly with existing brokerage systems and processes, Broker Access empowers brokers to cover more loads and reduce total costs, all while navigating the challenges of fluctuating freight volumes and rising operational demands.

Benefits for Brokers and the Freight Industry

Uber Freight’s Broker Access comes at a critical time for the freight brokerage industry. According to Brush Pass Research, the number of active brokerages dropped by 10.9% year-over-year in October, with 205 brokerages exiting the industry that month alone. The decline underscores the growing pressures on brokers to adapt to evolving market conditions.

Early adopters of Broker Access have reported significant operational improvements. For instance:

  • Mariner Logistics, an early user of the platform, credits Broker Access with enhancing its ability to manage challenging shipments at competitive rates. Ken Apple, Vice President of Engineering at Mariner Logistics, praised the platform's ability to reduce manual efforts while covering complex loads.
  • Seamless Logistics, another early adopter, highlighted the platform’s user-friendly dashboard as an essential tool for tracking shipments and managing documentation efficiently. According to Truckload Manager Libby Whited, the technology has saved her team considerable time during the booking process.

Uber Freight Founder Lior Ron emphasized the platform’s broader potential:

“Broker Access optimizes freight operations and strengthens relationships across the supply chain. Our platform is now more accessible and connected than ever, offering brokers tools to scale their businesses effectively.”

Uber Freight’s Position in the Market

As one of North America’s largest logistics firms, Uber Freight ranks No. 13 on the Transport Topics Top 100 Logistics Companies list and No. 10 among freight brokerage firms. The launch of Broker Access reinforces its commitment to supporting the freight industry through innovation, offering solutions that address both operational inefficiencies and economic challenges.

Broker Access not only represents a technological advancement for Uber Freight but also marks a significant step toward modernizing the freight brokerage sector. By providing brokers with greater flexibility, speed, and cost savings, the platform aims to redefine how capacity is managed and utilized within the logistics industry.
