Uber Eats - Major Success Story or Epic Fail

This article is not a business case study! I would have liked to post this to the Uber Eats Customer Service link on their web page BUT it does not exist, hence my public posting.
With many of us locked down/self sheltered/quarantined due to Covid-19, some of us splurge on take-out without having to go out. We end up getting something we love to eat from our local restaurants thereby supporting small businesses.
All drivers of automobiles should have a state driver’s license (Gov’t picture ID). You cannot get into most gated communities or luxury high rise apartment complexes without a gov’t picture ID.
Very few drivers (being an optimist) drive without a driver’s license….not a good practice and probably against Uber driver policy.
When I get a call from gate security that the Uber Eats driver does not have his driver’s license because he lost his wallet yesterday (my dog ate my homework excuse) jeopardizes the loss of business for the restaurateur because a vendor he depended on, in this case Uber Eats, had a delivery driver without a driver’s license trying to get into a secure community.
When gate security calls me, I can do one of several things:
1. Deny the delivery/visitor because of a lack of ID (screws him and the restaurant in addition to making my daughter irate because she is hangy)
OR
2. Make an exception with the security company to let the driver in without ID (don’t know if an axe murder got in – BUT there is tons of security video footage of his vehicle/plate/and driver. ADDED BENEFIT – happy daughter).
I chose number 2….yes I know, a crappy decision!
My recommendation to Uber Eats and their competition: please enforce and or tighten your policy to make sure your drivers are carrying their driver’s license and/or gov’t picture IDs.
Be safe and stay well!!!
