Just days before the much-anticipated Conference of the Parties (COP28), the UAE has unveiled its ambitious 'Waste to Zero' initiative. To inspire nations to embrace advanced tech solutions, especially in waste management, and champion the circular economy.

Major Players, Major Commitments

Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, the UAE Minister of Climate Change & Environment, emphasised the nation's commitment to the Paris Agreement's goals. She highlighted the importance of partnerships with major players in achieving the UAE's climate commitments and the vision of Net Zero by 2050.The waste management sector is a prime focus, contributing to an estimated 3-5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Almheiri expressed confidence in the UAE's capability to make a significant global impact in this sector, furthering the international environmental and climate agenda.

Circular Economy: The Way Forward

Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, underscored the importance of a circular economy. This integrated economic system aligns with the global shift towards a green economy, ensuring resources are reused and recycled, reducing waste, and minimising environmental impact.

Eng Al Dhaheri, Tadweer MD and CEO envisions 'Waste to Zero' as more than an initiative.
