UAE - UK Sovereign Investment Partnership
On Thursday at No.10 Downing Street, the UAE-UK Sovereign Investment Partnership (SIP) was signed by Lord Grimstone and Khaldoon al Mubarak, witnessed by the Prime Minister and the UAE Crown Prince as part of a larger bilateral Partnership for the Future. Contained in the SIP is a pathway to deepening the commercial links between the UK and UAE, steered by the Office for Investment and Mubadala.
The SIP's £10 billion investment across life sciences, clean energy, infrastructure and technology is brought to life by the hard work of people across the UK and UAE. From colleagues in the Department for International Trade to the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, HM Treasury, and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (amongst others) this has been a significant cross Government effort to secure the SIP recognising the importance of this investment in creating future jobs and growth in important industries. For UK companies like CityFibre who announced a significant investment by Mubadala this week this means additional capital to support the rollout of UK digital infrastructure, and bp who has signed a strategic framework agreement with ADNOC and Masdar, developing energy partnerships for the future.
The SIP will continue to develop and expand over the coming months and years and I am looking forward to shaping it and the future opportunities it creates. This week was an important milestone so I am grateful for the collective efforts of colleagues in the public and private sector in the UK and UAE to make it happen.
