UAE National Grid is Now Powered by Al Aweer H IV 815 MW Simple Cycle Power Plant

  • First Egyptian EPC Contractor to Execute a Power Generation Project with DEWA
  • 11 Million Manhours Without LTIs on November 2023
  • 96.8% Overall Work Progress on November 2023
  • 400 kV Connection to the Grid for 3 Units

The first and second gas turbines of Al Aweer Simple Cycle Power Plant were successfully first fired on 10th March 2023 and 02nd May 2023, respectively. Marking a significant accomplishment for the consortium of ELSEWEDY ELECTRIC Power and SIEMENS Energy moving towards the Takeover and Acceptance Certificate for the Three Gas Turbine Units.

The testing of several important components of gas turbines’ auxiliaries and the balance of the plant was conducted to ensure the successful operation of the units. These components included the 385 MVA Generator Step-up Transformers, 32MVA Unit Auxiliary Transformers, Generator Circuit Breakers, ISO-Phase Bus Ducts, MV Switchgear Protection interlocks, and the measurement interface with the 400KV GIS Substation and Load Dispatch Center (LDC).

The engineering, procurement, and construction of AWEER H IV aims to rev up the performance of the existing plant by adding an extension to its ‘H’ Station that will increase the station’s total capacity to 2,825 MW under climate conditions of up to 50 degrees Celsius.

This project comes to meet the continued growth of demand for electricity in the Emirate of Dubai and works to establish the status of Dubai as a leading model in the region for its effective and efficient electricity and water infrastructure.

The 815-megawatt gas-fired open-cycle power project is in AI Aweer in the Emirate of Dubai. The power plant consists, of three (3) Class F gas turbines with dual fuel firing capability. The gas turbines can burn natural gas as primary fuel and diesel fuel oil (DFO) as backup fuel. Each turbine will operate in a single (open) cycle mode. The gas turbines will consist of an inlet filtering system, an axial flow compressor, a combustion system, a power turbine, and an exhaust stack. The Project components will also feature a balance of plant facilities, including the fuel system for natural gas and DFO, closed circuit cooling water (CCCW) systems, fire-fighting system, compressed air system, Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS), and central control room. The Station ‘H’ Phase IV project requires extensive interfacing with the operational Station, as most of the Terminal Points (gas, fuel oil (DFO), demi water, firefighting, 400 KV substation) are allocated on the existing Station.

ELSEWEDY ELECTRIC Power scope of work includes engineering, procurement and installation of the balance of plant, the erection, and installation of the SIEMENS gas turbines, in addition to the site preparation, leveling, and the civil, construction, and site utilities for the project. SIEMENS scope of work includes fabrication, supplying, testing, and commissioning of the gas turbine generators in addition to the joint project management.
