History Of UAE

The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates, each governed by an absolute monarch. The federation was formally established on December 2, 1971. Before that date, the seven emirates were under British protection as the Trucial States.

The largest and wealthiest emirate is Abu Dhabi, which controls more than 90 percent of the federation’s land area and 95 percent of its oil reserves. The second-largest emirate, Dubai, has achieved rapid economic growth in recent years and is now the UAE’s commercial capital.

The other five emirates are Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah, and Fujairah. Each emirate has its own ruler and its own government, although there is considerable coordination among the seven rulers on matters of common interest.

The history of the UAE goes back centuries to when the region was inhabited by nomadic tribes. Over time, these tribes settled in oasis villages and began to trade with each other and with people from other parts of the world.

Due to the region's strategic location on the route connecting India and Europe, the British started showing interest in it in the late 18th century. With some of the regional leaders, Britain negotiated a number of treaties that gave it influence over the area but refrained from establishing it as a colony.

Economy and Development

With a projected GDP of US$501 billion (AED 1.84 trillion) in 2022, the United Arab Emirates' (or UAE's) economy will rank fifth in the Middle East. Despite having few natural resources, the UAE has been successful in achieving high rates of economic growth and development. The UAE is still a conservative nation but is also one of the most liberal in the area; despite this, the government still pursues a stable and authoritarian course of action.

The UAE has the seventh-largest proven oil reserves in the world and the second-largest proven gas reserves in the GCC. Approximately 60% of the GDP and 85% of government revenue come from oil and gas exports. However, the UAE has been attempting to diversify its economy away from dependence on the export of oil and gas; today, non-oil industries like tourism, aviation, financial services, and construction account for nearly 40% of the GDP.?
