UAE LAUNCHES E-SERVICE TO ISSUE EMERGENCY PASSPORTS

In order to assist Emirati citizens who have traveled outside the country in the event of expiry, loss, or damage of the regular passports as well as for newborns, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced on October 10, 2022, that it has launched the electronic "return document" service.

With this new electronic service, the government guarantees a smooth service to expedite the issuing of emergency passports to save people time. Additionally, this service enables passengers from the Emirate to apply for the travel document, access it from any location at any time, and receive it by email all without having to pay any fees or go to an embassy or consulate.

The service was developed in response to consumer requests for a speedy emergency passport issuance service, according to Abdulaziz Al-Habsi, Director of Citizens Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

WHAT IS RETURN DOCUMENT SERVICE

The issuance of an electronic return document for citizens traveling through the state's representative missions abroad in the event that they are subjected to emergency scenarios (loss, damage, or expiration of their regular passport) in order to expedite their return to the state.

  2. A?copy of the child's birth certificate certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of residence and the country's mission abroad.

  • ISSUANCE OF A RETURN DOCUMENT BY VIRTUE OF THE EXPIRATION OF THE ORDINARY PASSPORT

  1. Photograph/Selfie
  2. A copy of the expired passport.

  • ISSUANCE OF A RETURN DOCUMENT BY VIRTUE OF A DAMAGED ORDINARY PASSPORT

  1. Photograph/Selfie
  2. A copy of the damaged passport.

  • ISSUANCE OF A RETURN DOCUMENT BY VIRTUE OF LOSING AN ORDINARY PASSPORT

WHAT STEPS ARE TAKEN IF A CITIZEN LOSES HIS PASSPORT WHILE TRAVELLING OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY

  1. Receive the return document via email.
  2. Photograph
  3. A?copy of the record of the loss of the?passport.
  4. A copy of the lost passport.
  5. Apply for a return document on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation or the smart application, while completing the documents designated for?the application.
  6. The citizen must visit the nearest police station and circulate the passport by making a report of its loss.

WHAT STEPS MUST BE TAKEN TO OBTAIN A RETURN DOCUMENT FOR NEWBORNS

  1. Receive the return document via email.
  2. A copy of the family book in full.
  3. A copy of the marriage contract (certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the headquarters of the mission, or the embassy).
  4. A copy of the mother's passport.
  5. A copy of the father's passport.
  6. A ?copy of the child's birth certificate, certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of residence and the country's mission abroad.
  7. An application for a return document - for newborns is submitted on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the smart application, with the documents designated for the application completed.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO OBTAIN AN EMERGENCY PASSPORT AND HOW MUCH DOES IT COST

Emirati travelers can obtain an emergency passport within 30 minutes by applying through the ministry’s website at mofaic.gov.ae with no fee if the request meets the terms and requirements.
