??On Our Radar??

Stuff we're monitoring – and you should keep your eye on.

?

?? NO TIME TO WASTE

We’re ready for our last summer hurrah just as much as you are, so we’ll keep this one short and sweet. If TikTok continues to teach us anything it’s that the window for opportunity to jump on a #trend while it’s hot (aka before it ends up on Reels) starts shrinking the moment you notice it.

?

This week, we’ve rounded up a few noteworthy reactions – brands that have had exemplary responses to trends both in timeliness and strategy.

??RushTok??

Spotlight on: Winky Lux, TELETIES

Sorority recruitment season is in full swing, and this year’s hyper-choreographed dance sequences continue to have a chokehold on our feeds. When there’s a hyper-stylized event, you bet there’s product placement. But how do up-and-comers get a seat at the RushTok table among whales like David Yurman, Golden Goose, and Kendra Scott??

The key might just be to stay tiny but mighty. TELETIES (hair ties and clips) and Winky Lux (clean makeup) – both wallet-friendly and pocket-sized – quickly partnered up with rising star @bamamorgan. The creator (an incoming freshman) grew her 178K following within a month after coining #relatablerush – her own version of deinfluencing the glamor of rush week by being real.?

?

#relatablerush – 30.0M views

#teleties – 48.7M views?

#winkylux – 67.3M views

?

Morgan isn’t your stereotypical platinum-blonde rush girlie, meaning her influence might just have the potential to reach other non-rush-related niche communities. Case in point: a non-rush-related video that features both TELETIES and Winky Lux in a birthday gift box for Morgan’s mom currently has 1.1M views.

?Bite-Sized Big Stuff?

Spotlight on: Peacock

?

Recently it’s starting to feel like I’ve watched more TLC in the last month than I have in my entire life. At least once per scroll sesh, I’ll be served a ~3-5 minute chunk of some weird diaper addiction, broccoli aversion, or a family trying to turn their block into a bodybuilding competition. Funny enough, I don’t…hate it? As it turns out I’m not the only one.?

?

Communal plagiarism is no new phenomenon, but there has been an increase in broken-down content leaking into the FYP fold – long-form videos spread into smaller clips. Some argue that TikTok has broken Hollywood – others say this will drive traffic to streaming platforms as interest gets piqued and users will then seek out the real deal. Peacock is testing the waters by betting on the latter.??

?

Their #TikTok profile currently features two full episodes – both broken down into 10ish minute chunks and compiled into playlists so users can scroll all the way through. One of the episodes is the pilot for Craig Robinson’s “Killing It” – the other is the Season 5 premiere of Love Island USA.

?

Currently, Peacock has 1.9M followers; the “Killing It” pilot has ~9.5M views.

???The Selena Gomez Beach Blanket???

Spotlight on: Laguna Beach Textile Company

?If you haven’t seen the viral picture and now meme of Selena Gomez wrapped up in a Mexican blanket here it is. Cozy right? Now you can’t unsee it. In case you also want to go buy it – you’re far from the only one.?

Selena Gomez wearing a Mexican blanket from the Laguna Beach Textile Company spikes sales

Laguna Beach Textile Company has reported selling over 200 blankets – a 400-500% increase in sales across the board – since the photo went viral. LBT Co. decided to embrace all of the press. Even when problematic-adjacent influencer Trisha Paytas posted a questionable with the blanket as a spoof reference to Hurricane Hilary – the blanket company founder ultimately jumped in on the conversation, successfully capitalizing on the momentum.?

??

Beach please.

My mission this weekend is to be 1/2 as cozy as Salena in that blanket.
