When I first heard this quote, it was at the ESPY’s on March 3, 1993. I haven’t thought much about it since then. Today I read a page in the Daily Stoic that has me thinking about life and what a good day consists of. Laughing, crying, and thinking. I think back to the 1983 NC State Wolfpack and the Jim Valvano story and then watching ESPN 30 for 30 Survive and Advance. My good friend Dereck Whittenburg was the producer of the story and won an Emmy. When D works in a room and starts to tell the Herculean story of how David beat down Goliath, he intrigues people. It’s a true testament to man who believed in his ability to lead a team to a championship. When all the odds are against you and you are able to find a way to shine, this is how you will accomplish any goal you set for yourself. He used to practice cutting down the nets in practice. He was guiding them to win before the opening buzzer of the game.

So, it has me thinking about life. What does a good day consist of?…or a good week?

1. Laughing at yourself as much as possible
2. Working smart, thinking, reading, and writing
3. Studying the people around you and helping them improve and guiding them
4. Being thankful and thoughtful
5. Being kind and considerate
6. Being open and listening
7. Pushing people to do extraordinary stuff and hugging them
8. Being mindful
9. Being sentimental
10. Being grateful and charitable
11. Loving and caring
12. Crying maybe

This is a mouthful but you start to see the full picture of what a day or week looks like. If you start to do this, you will be wildly successful in life and be able to help people accomplish their mission or yours. This is my way of giving back to society. It has me thinking about my next move.
