Typography: Using Columns when Branding

Welcome to this week’s A-List newsletter. We will talk about typography especially when designing. .

Type is one of my passions when designing a brand + strategy. It is a fascinating and extensive subject. The simplest way to lay out your text is with one text box across one column. If you don't have much to say, this can be really effective. One column can get overwhelming when you have a lot of information to convey, that's when you need to think about using multiple columns. Columns are your friend!

If you're currently working with wall to wall text, let's start by adding in some decent margins around the edge of the page. Next, play about with columns and explore what works best - one, two or three? Will you have your header in one and the content off to the side perhaps? Or are you best with just one, nice neat text box in the centre of your page? As always, explore, experiment and play around until you have created something gorgeous!
