Threads-Part 2
1. V- Thread
2. Square Thread
3. Acme Thread
4. Buttress Thread
5. Knuckle Thread
6. Whitworth Thread
1. V- Thread
Metric ISO threaded screws are V-shaped at the outer edges, and are self-locking so do they not need a screw lock. The flank angle of a V thread is 60° and it is commonly used for all places where fine adjustments with leads as fine as 0.0125inch (0.3175mm) are critical such as microscope stages.
2. Square Thread
The square thread form is a common screw thread profile, used in high-load applications such as leadscrews and jackscrews. It gets its name from the square cross-section of the thread. It is the lowest friction and most efficient thread form, but it is difficult to fabricate.

3. Acme Thread
Square threads are difficult to manufacture, so ACME threads have come into play. The General Purpose and Centralizing thread forms have a nominal depth of thread of 0.50 × pitch and have a 29° included thread angle.
4. Buttress Thread
a screw thread in which the driving face is made perpendicular to the axis of the screw (as in a square thread) while the back face makes an angle with the axis (as in a V thread) in order to combine efficiency in the transmission of power with strength.
5. Knuckle Thread
Knuckle threads or round threads are an unusual highly rounded thread form. The large space between the rounded crests and roots provides space for debris to be shifted to not interfere with the thread, making this form resistant to debris and thread damage.
6. Whitworth Thread
The principal features of the British Standard Whitworth (BSW) thread form are that the angle between the thread flanks is 55 degrees and the thread has radii at both the roots and the crests of the thread. The relevant standard for this thread form is the British Standard BS 84 - 2007. The thread form is now redundant and has been replaced by Unified and Metric threads but there are many applications in which it is still used.
