There are four main types of machine learning algorithms:
- Supervised learning algorithms are trained on a dataset of labeled examples, where each input has a known output. The algorithm learns to predict the output for new inputs based on the patterns it has learned from the training data. Supervised learning algorithms can be used for both classification and regression tasks.
- Unsupervised learning algorithms are trained on a dataset of unlabeled examples. The algorithm learns to find patterns and structure in the data without any prior knowledge of the correct outputs. Unsupervised learning algorithms are often used for tasks such as clustering, anomaly detection, and dimensionality reduction.
- Semi-supervised learning algorithms are trained on a dataset that contains both labeled and unlabeled examples. The algorithm uses the labeled examples to learn patterns and structure in the data, and then uses the unlabeled examples to refine its predictions. Semi-supervised learning algorithms can be used to improve the performance of supervised learning algorithms in cases where there is limited labeled data available.
- Reinforcement learning algorithms learn by interacting with their environment. The algorithm is rewarded for taking actions that lead to desired outcomes, and penalized for taking actions that lead to undesired outcomes. Reinforcement learning algorithms are often used to train agents to play games or to perform tasks in real-world environments.
