Two Weeks Into Quarantine

Two Weeks Into Quarantine

As I sit here in my new workspace after just over 2 weeks of quarantine and reflect on my current situation, I am overwhelmed with a sense of gratitude and strangely, calm.

The disruption COVID-19 has caused and the severity of the disease is not lost on me. My parents would both be considered high risk, many of my friends and family have pre-existing conditions that could make catching this virus deadly. The impact to small businesses in my neighborhood and community has been severe and I see organizations struggling to stay afloat. My husband and I are sharing remote office space and I started my first day as a 3rd, 6th and 9th grade teacher this week. I am also now a short order cook and waitress in a restaurant where everyone hates the menu and sometimes the atmosphere and this morning I forgot how I part my hair :-/

But in the midst of all of it - the noise, the disruption, the isolation - I've been forced to refocus and reprioritize all of the things that I love most. I am enjoying my family. I am reading, painting, drawing and baking with my grandmother's recipes. We are not running back and forth from "activities". We are going on walks together, playing board games and cards, and catching football. We are having conversations that aren't rushed. We are listening to each other. We are wasting less and repurposing. We are discovering all of the things we don't need and at the same time realizing what is truly important.

It is true, this too shall pass...but when it does I hope we never forget and we are changed forever.

Stay well!
