Two truths and a lie to wrap up 2024

2024 was a year of immense change for me. I grew my family (daughter born in March), quit my full-time corporate job, and bet on myself... with the help of some incredible support.

I have learned so much in the last few months, and wanted to share a few thoughts as I navigate this new chapter...

TRUTH: I have spent years and years of my life interviewing hundreds of people on camera, from senators to a serial killer behind bars, to the next door neighbor who got ripped off by a contractor. Most of the people I talked with were not comfortable in front of the camera. Public speaking comes naturally to VERY few people, but here's the truth: it's a skill, like anything else, that can be developed. There are some universal truths to public speaking that can help anyone improve, but mostly, it's SUCH an individual process. The number one tip for getting better is boring, but it works, and that's to practice! Out loud. In your car. In the shower. In front of your dog. Just do it.

TRUTH: There is no one way to be a professional! I always looked at people like me (full-time consultants) and didn't understand how they did it. It can look different for everyone, but for now, I am so fortunate to be working with the teams at Brighton Media and On Air . I get to spend my days talking and working on things I love and am obsessed with, like making more people comfortable and confident with public speaking, AI tools to improve comms processes, and the future of local news. I am proof that, yes, you can make it up, and sometimes, it works out. Create the life you want!
