Two-Thirds of H-1B Visa Applications This Year Filed by Indians
More than 67 per cent of 275,000 registrations for H-1B visas in the fiscal year 2021 were filed by Indian citizens, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced.
From 250,00 applications, 85,000 applications are selected by the lottery, VisaGuide.World reports.
India and China have been the largest beneficiaries of the H-1B visa, in the previous years as well.
Even though Indian citizens make the largest number of beneficiaries of the temporary H-1B visa, last year they had the highest denial rate as well.
One in every fifth petition for the US H-1B visas were denied in 2019, according to data presented by the United States Government. Indian companies like Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys had a higher denial rate compared to American ones.
Even though that in 2019, the denial rate decreased to 21 per cent compared to 2018, the National Foundation for American Policy revealed that the denial rate for Indian companies has increased.
H-1B visa aims to help US employers to find international workers if they can’t find them in the US, requiring higher education decree and specialized in fields like IT, architects, accountants, professors, doctors, etc.
The US technology firms ‘depend’ on tens of thousands of oversea workers, especially from countries like India and China.
During this week, the United States Citizenship and Immigration agency announced that the limit for preliminary applications for H-1B visas had been reached.
Amid coronavirus outbreak a non-profit organization, known as US Tech Workers, has urged America’s government to suspend for this year the H-1B and H-2B visa programs, to protect their interest amid coronavirus pandemic.
The group organization asked the suspension of these two programs amid the economic shutdown, due to COVID-19, through a letter addressed to the US President Donald Trump.
