There are two major areas that they need to be aligned in:
1. Both sales and marketing and need to have a common understanding of what a quality lead is.
Without the definition of a quality lead sales is never sure of marketing is really targeting the people that they need to close more business.
2. There needs to be a service level agreement (SLA) between sales and marketing on the speed in which sales will follow up with marketing leads.
Surprisingly still 30% of leads are not followed up with at all and shockingly the rate in which leads are qualified effectively drops 400% in the first hour that lead is not followed up on.
So without that service level agreement, marketing never knows if sales is following up with leads consistently and quickly and they’re not able to measure the success of the program.
