Two Reasons You May Want to Hire Me
Kimberley MacKenzie, CPCC, ACC
Let's change the world together by creating healthier workplaces where your people thrive.
If we have known each other awhile you might think of me as a consultant or a fundraiser. That is not the case anymore. It is time to re-introduce myself. Hi, I’m Kimberley. Some people call me KM or KMac – but never Kim. My pronouns are She/Her.
I started working for charities 25 years ago. I’ve been an Executive Director twice, Director of Development twice and built a six-figure single shingle consulting business. I have held the designation of Certified Fundraising Executive since 2006. I’m going to let it lapse this year.
The truth is, I fell into this sector as a passionate volunteer and over time I became a stressed out, overworked, worn down consultant who was making a lot of money but quite frankly stopped caring. It got to a point where I just wanted to stay in bed all day. At that time I was diagnosed with “Adrenal Fatigue” commonly known as BURN OUT – for the second time in my career.
After several weeks of resting and thinking, I needed to find my flow again. I needed to ignite the passion I felt when I was doing my volunteer work so many years ago.
One day my husband (v 2.0) asked me what I would do if I were my own consultant? My answer: A mind map of course! ?Then a values assessment. You see, our values shift over time. Who you were 5, 10, 15 years ago is no longer who you are today. I came to realize that my actions – consulting - were no longer aligned with my values. When you are in a place of discord everything feels hard.
So I asked myself the question I’ve asked so many charities – if money was no object what would I do? It was through this work that I decided to transition away from fundraising and to let my CFRE credential expire.
You see, I was craving meaningful conversations. I was hungry for connection. I wanted to stop working alone and collaborate more. I wanted to be of service. I wanted to be part of a community. So, I launched The Intersection Hub and the podcast. I’m so grateful to everyone who is a part of this community. If you haven’t joined the community I’d love to welcome you. This is where you can get on the list. It is free and cool people are there.
Still, I have friends and family who wonder if I’m ever going make money again. The answer to that is YES. Absolutely. So, I’m writing to you to let you know two reasons why you might like to hire me.
Coaching
If you looked back on this moment twenty years from now would the memory of it make you smile? If not, you may want to consider hiring me.
Over the past year I’ve been in training with the Co-Active Training Institute . I have had an active coaching practice for six months now. When I hit 100 hours of paid coaching I’ll be able write an exam for certification as a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) and an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) with the International Coaching Federation . I’m almost there!
I am a recovering charity executive, burnt out consultant and the matriarch of a blended family with ten people in it. I understand complicated.
My hope for my clients is that they can smoothly navigate transitions and live an abundant, joyful purpose filled life. That’s what I want for you – to live in a state of flow. I did it and I know you can too.
I currently have ten clients in five countries. My clients are rockstars and in various states of transitions. All working to build a purposeful, joyful life so they can do more to have a positive impact on the world.
You can hire me to be your coach too. It starts with a zoom call to see if we have chemistry. Where you live doesn’t matter. As mentioned, it is a global practice. However, the time zones in Australia and India are a challenge to schedule. Feel free to check out my calendar here and book a chemistry session today.
“I was one of those people who always felt guilty about investing in myself, but now I wish I’d done it sooner because I can see how much further down the road I would be.”
– Carl Gough
Facilitation
Facilitating conversations is sort of my superpower. I’m really good at creating safe spaces where people can be courageously candid.
“Kimberley led us beautifully through a fairly difficult discussion, and really made sure we nailed something concrete down. I’m very pleased with the outcome we achieved.” – Ruth MacKenzie, Executive Director, Canadian Association of Gift Planners
To get traction, you need a little bit of friction. Too much friction and you can stagnate. Holding space right in the middle takes talent. I do that exceptionally well.
Sometimes a team needs to come together to discuss big issues to get alignment and overcome perceived barriers. I can help you with that. That volunteer work that I did at the very beginning of my career involved facilitating conversations and I eventually became a trainer, training other volunteers to do the same. Of course, I called on these skills in my work as a strategic planning consultant and charity executive working with volunteer boards.
Call me. Let’s talk about the challenges you are having with your team. I probably can help. My private cellphone is 289-231-1339.
In summary
The world looks very different than it did three years ago. When the external environment has changed so much, we can get out of alignment. It can help to look internally and ask ourselves if the actions we are taking are still building the life we want to live? This is so exciting and offers extraordinary opportunities to shift.
?I’ve emerged and become someone different than you might have known ten years (or more) ago. How about you? Who are you becoming today? I would love to know.
