Lecture 1:

COMPOSTING - TECHNOLOGY AND QUALITY OF COMPOST. APPLICATION IN SEEDLING PRODUCTION

Lecturer: Dr. Tsvetanka Dincheva

The lecture will present basic technological elements for the production of quality compost: materials, their preparation for composting, controlling the process and analyzes of the final product. The aim is to provide guidance to farmers on how to utilize plant waste from agriculture and to produce compost. The results of experiments at "Maritsa" Institute and the application of the organic product in seedling production of basic vegetable crops will be presented.

Lecture 2:

PESTS - VECTORS OF VIRUS DISEASES IN VEGETABLE CROPS

Lecturers: Dr. Vinelina Yankova, Dr. Gancho Pasev

Sucking insects such as aphids, thrips and whiteflies can cause indirect losses as vectors of viral diseases in addition to direct damages to plants. This group of pests are polyphagous and cause a significant threat to vegetable production. The transmitted viruses often lead to significantly greater losses than those caused as a result of direct pest damage. Virus-infected plants can not be cured. However, specific measures can be applied to prevent or reduce the levels of viral diseases in crops by removing or avoiding the sources of infection and minimising the spread of sucking pests. To limit the risk it is necessary to take the necessary plant protection measures in a complex manner and to carry out regular monitoring.
