Two For The Price Of One? Not Likely!
The beauty of being a real estate photographer is that you get to see some really unique things, and along the way you get an education in the real world too.
Take this courtyard for example from Paddington in Sydney. Most of Paddington is terrace housing, and as lovely as they are (I have a fondness for terraces) their courtyards are usually narrow, and most have been converted into off street parking.
This courtyard though is unique, because many years ago the owner bought the neighbouring terrace and knocked out the adjoining wall, both inside and out. So what we’re left with is a very exclusive double terrace.
So now you’re thinking ‘Awesome, two terraces for the price of one!’ and to be honest so was I, although in Sydney maybe thinking ‘for the price of one’ was being a touch naive.
In fact the agent at the time told me it was more like ‘two for the price of three’ because of that unique factor. How many terraces are twice the size inside and out, answer is not many at all. So that makes it rare, and when things are rare the price always goes up, never down.
And for the record unlike most terraces where the parking is in the courtyard, this owner had the even rarer luxury of having the garage in the front – now how many terraces have you ever seen with a garage door at the front?!
