"In developing? The Pittsburgh Left, I’m interested in how other artists think about the city and how it has influenced their work. I chose artists at various stages of their careers. Some I’ve reached out to for the first time, and some I have worked with over the years. Within this mix, I hope for unexpected dialogue. I don’t expect a very harmonious arrangement, but a quirky one that challenges the viewer to look closely at each artist’s point of view.” — Tom Sarver, Artist & Exhibition Organizer
Use What You Got by atiya jones
Through November 20, 2022
707 Penn Gallery
Use What You Got?is the debut solo exhibition of works created by auto-didactic multi-disciplinary artist atiya jones. As a part of her “Self Avoidance Series (2020-),” these “brain maps” are considered by the artist to be self-portraits, representing her internal mental landscape. The "Self Avoidance Series" portrays the shift jones experienced relative to her mental health during the isolation-phase of the COVID-19 pandemic during the summer of 2020.
This show is a testament to one of her earliest learned skills: "Make due with what one has access to."
