Two Navistar Dealer Network Technicians Win ASE Technician of the Year

Two Navistar dealer network technicians were recently named Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Technician of the Year by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence at the 2023 ASE Board of Governors meeting and annual Technician Recognition Awards banquet held in November 2023. James Singleton of Highway Motors, Inc. was named ASE Master Truck Technician of the Year, and Jeremy Adkins of Sternberg International was named ASE Master Bus Technician of the Year.

More than 100,000 individuals participated in the 2023 ASE Certifications and only 54 technicians achieved top scores. Each year, ASE recognizes those who have distinguished themselves in the automotive service industry as the best of the best. The individuals honored in this event come from all segments of the automotive, collision repair, truck and school bus, parts, educator, and training sectors.

James, a diesel technician for more than 35 years, graduated from the Diesel Institute of America with honors in 1989 and has spent the majority of his career with Highway Motors, Inc. Along with his extensive diesel experience, he has been ASE certified for more than 25 years, is an ASE advanced level specialist, ASE master medium/heavy truck technician, ASE master school bus technician, Navistar Diamond certified, and holds multiple Cummins Diesel certifications.

“I always had a love for tearing things apart and fixing them since age 10 or younger,” said James. “It started with watches, bicycles, mowers, motorcycles, and cars. I saved money to send myself to a diesel trade school after high school. Being an ASE master technician has helped me to deliver the highest level of customer service to the public I serve.”

Outside of work, James enjoys spending time with his daughter and grandson, restoring old cars, and enjoying various outdoor activities like four wheeling and camping.

Jeremy, a diesel technician for 21 years, is currently lead technician and shop foreman at Sternberg International. He holds his Navistar Diamond certification for both bus and truck, ASE master certifications for bus and truck, L2 certification, and multiple Cat and Cummins certifications. When Jeremy was young, he worked on cars with his father and uncles, which immediately piqued his interest.

“Since the seventh grade, I was interested in this career path, and winning this award seems like I might have taken the right path,” said Jeremy. “This is an ever-changing field; technology updates every six months. ASE helps give you the knowledge needed to try and stay ahead.”

Outside of work, Jeremy enjoys spending time with his two sons, volunteering for his local 4H club, and adding to his large Hot Wheels and RC car collection.
